What’s on your mind at 6am on Saturday ?

It is not that often that I wake up before 6am on Saturday morning.  The first few hours of Saturday morning are usually my sanctuary.  Today, there is just a whole lot on my mind.

On the spiritual side, I am thinking about my friend SZ who has that tint in her eye, that hue on her heart, that life is burdening her right now.  I’m thinking about CK and K and their good fight against depression.  I am telling God about the very big number of prayer requests that have bubbled up from my dear sisters this week.  I am also thinking about my friend MB and how she reminded me last night how much we need each other.  In the midst of prayers, battles and claiming of victory, she wisely says . . .  Why don’t we all just hang out at the pool and have some fun this weekend?  (That happens in South Florida in October.)

The only thing you and I need today is Jesus.  He is really the only thing that we need everyday.  But, it is refreshing to breathe that in.  Refreshing to know that wherever your mind is, He is all you need.  He is all you need to think, meditate and pray through whatever is on your mind today.

Drink your coffee or tea, clear your mind and do exactly what God calls you to do this weekend.  That’s my plan.  What is on your mind at 6am on Saturday?

In the Morning Darkness

By AbbyA

Waking up before the alarm goes off.  Sensing awake.  Searching out the question of what day it is.  What is in store.  And, where are you Lord?  In the morning dark.  Wanting arms wrapped around me.  You are here.  Are you here?

Are we okay God?  Scanning my recent actions.  Condition of my heart.  Lord, are you disappointed in anything?  Where am I?  This is not the quiet stillness of His presence.  In the morning dark.  This is me sensing that I don’t know if you are there.  Wanting arms wrapped around me.  You are here.  Are you here?

This is not bleeding or desperation.  This is not brokenness or streaming tears.  This is not fear or anxiety.  This is me in the morning darkness wanting Your arms wrapped around me.  You are here.  Are you here?

In the darkness.  I have not been able to answer these questions of where you are or how we are.  Neither have you.  I am seeking your security.  In the darkness.  I am checking to see if we are okay before I reach out to seek you.  You have not sought me first.  It is like I have gone to the kitchen to make coffee but I cannot find the filters.  I can’t begin.  I want you to show yourself to me.  This is me in the morning darkness wanting arms wrapped around me.

I do not know how old I will be in age or spiritual maturity before I learn your purity and faithfulness.  You do not hide.  You do not have better things to do.  You do not cease to know that it is me grasping for you in the morning darkness.  You are there in the lack of stillness and stirring of my heart.  You are there even while I open doors to find you.  The maze that I turn through in the stillness of morning is to lead me to you.  There is insecurity in living without you and security in finding your peacefulness.

Lord, I pray for all of the restless hearts that wake up searching for you.  You called me friend, but sometimes I have to knock on your door.  You chose me first, but sometimes I have to invite you for coffee.  Unlike a friend who will inevitably be late or forget or go through her own tough time.  This is never you.  You always show up on time.  Never forget a date or become preoccupied with your own important matters.  You always have time for me.  Probably more than my little mind can comprehend.

For this cause everyone who is godly shall pray to You in a time when You may be found; Surely in a flood of great waters They shall not come near him.  You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance.  Psalm 32:6-7.

You know you’re best friends when…

By Bindu Adai-Mathew

You know you’re best friends when you ask your friend if your butt looks big in an outfit, and she responds by nodding her head with an emphatic yes and suggesting your butt applies for its own zip code…and all you do is bust out laughing in return.

You know you’re best friends when you can let your friend see you do the “ugly cry.”  You know, the one where your face gets all contorted like you’re seriously constipated and your nose turns redder than Rudolph the red-nose reindeer.

You know you’re best friends with someone when the first thing you wanted to do is call that person after you got engaged or found out that you’re pregnant.

You know you’re best friends with someone when you’ve allowed her to see you in spandex. Ever.

You know you’re best friends with someone when you let them see you without makeup on.

You know you’re best friends with someone when they remember the days you didn’t even need makeup.

You know you’re best friends with someone when you don’t lie to them about your weight or your real age.

You know you’re best friends with someone if that someone knew you in the days before your age was in the double digits.

You know you’re best friends with someone when you tell them you’re fine and they know better.

You know you’re best friends with someone when you love them enough to tell them the truth and not just what they want to hear…and they don’t hold it against you.

You know you’re best friends with someone if you trust them enough to take them swimsuit shopping with you.

You know you’re best friends when you can sit together in silence and still have had the best conversation.

You know you’re best friends with someone when all you have to do is give that person one look and they know exactly what you’re saying.

You know you’re best friends with someone when you can tell them the ugliest, dirtiest little secret and they never bring it up ever again to anyone, including you.

You know you’re best friends with someone when you want to go on a vacation with that person.

You know you’re best friends with someone when you’re willing to do something for that person without expecting anything else in return.

You know you’re best friends with someone when…now it’s your turn. How do YOU know someone in your life is your best friend?

So what are you doing just sitting there thinking about it? Go tell them/call them/email them/text them/Facebook them/tweet them…there are  endless ways to do it these days…but however you do it, let them know you’re so grateful they’re in your life and that your life is better because of having known them.

And then send them a link to this blog so they can get a smile out of it!
